We'll miss Sourav, but let's move on: Akram

KOLKATA: One of the shocks of the IPL auctions in January was when Sourav Ganguly failed to find a bidder. Not just the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he had been the 'icon' for three years, but the nine other teams of IPL 4 too ignored the former India skipper.

Wasim Akram was around on Tuesday to spell it out for his "close friend". "I believe it's time to move on. There is a time for everything. We have a new captain and a young side. This mindset...," Akram, who joined the squad on Monday, said at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday.

"I am a pretty close friend of Sourav, a family friend... We'll miss Sourav Ganguly as a leader, but it's time to move on," added Akram, into his second year as the batting consultant of KKR.

In another blow to Ganguly's legion of fans, who still believe the 'Prince of Kolkata' is the greatest skipper India has produced, the former Pakistan skipper gave his vote to Mahendra Singh Dhoni. "The way Dhoni has performed in the last four years in my opinion he's the best skipper India has ever had," said Akram.
